Thanks to all who helped build our new outdoor kennels. Darwin Kasperson, who donated his welding services. Also thanks to Austin, Roger, John, Shawn, and Damian.
About us: Glacial Lakes Humane Society and Shelter is an open-intake shelter, taking any animal that comes through the door. We have no time limits that an animal is allowed to stay here. We service the needs of the Watertown Area, as well as Rural South Dakota and Minnesota. We are run by an independent and voluntary Board of Directors that meet monthly. Larry Houck is the Board President. We employ two full time staff at the shelter. Donna Rapinchuk is the Manager and has been with us for 10 years. Amber Kennedy is the Assistant Manager has been here for 5. Together, they care for the animals, clean and maintain the facilities, and work to find animals homes. We have eighteen dog kennels and forty cat cages to house the animals that come to our door, whether they are surrendered by their owners, found as strays, or brought in by Dave Hoaas, the Animal Control Officer for the City of Watertown. Be sure to stop by and see his page. We accept volunteers, but do request that unsupervised children are at least 8 years of age and limit their time to one hour a day. We do receive funding from the City of Watertown in exchange for housing the City Strays. A few counties do provide funding for the acceptance of their strays as well. But the rest of our funding comes from sales, surrender fees, and donations from citizens like you.
How to find us: Directions: From I-29 / Hwy 212 exit, take Hwy 212 west 2 miles to the Hwy 20 T-intersection. Turn north / right on Hwy 20, go approx. 1 mile north and you will see Bramble Park Zoo on the east / right side. Directly across from Bramble Park Zoo is Hurkes Implement, a tractor dealership. Turn west / left at Hurkes Implement, go 3 blocks. We are on the north side of the road. Just look for the red, yellow and blue doghouses. Dogs are tied outside during cleaning when weather permits.
